Michigan Blues Recording Artist, Larry McCray has completed recording his first ever acoustic blues album. The project took place at Nashville’s Pinhead Recorders, with accomplished Canadian Blues Artist, Colin Linden (The Band, Bob Dylan) producing as well as performing on most tracks. Session musicians include Dave Jacques (John Prine, Lucinda Williams) on bass and George Receli (Bob Dylan, White Trash) on drums, with guest artists, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson) on harmonica, Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) on fiddle, Rebecca Lovell (Larkin Poe) on mandolin and Dominic Davis (Jack White, Amanda Shires) on bass, and Charlie Walmsley on piano.
Larry McCray expressed satisfaction with the project. “I have always wanted to make an acoustic record, but I was never in the right place to make that happen. I truly believe that my friend Colin Linden has brought together the right musicians and the right approach. I think we have a good record here.”
The title of the album is BLUE MARY, after one of the songs written by McCray and his partner Peggy Smith. Blue Mary tells a legendary ghost story over a country-style waltz structure.
The album features one traditional song and nine originals, two originals co-written by McCray and partner Peggy Smith, and seven originals co-written by McCray and long-time collaborator Charlie Walmsley who served as executive producer on the project.
Blue Mary will be released in Spring 2027 on Blind Pig Records.
