Can you play that song in a lower key? No but how about The Lower Keys!
Melinda and I are spending two months in the lower keys this winter. The music scene here is quite robust. Almost every bar/restaurant features live music nightly. Our local bar – Looe Key Tiki Bar – offers a jam session every Tuesday with The Jam Band – Tony, Mark, Luke and Cliff as host band. This is a group of top notch professionals who know how to have fun playing music. I got to know these guys last year when we were here for one month and this year, I have been a regular on the keyboard as well as fronting a few songs every Tuesday. Through the Tiki Bar Jam night, I have enjoyed getting acquainted with several area musicians, and now I have landed a regular solo gig at a nearby open-air restaurant / bar The Wharf. Actually Melinda landed me the gig and I am very grateful for the opportunity. The Wharf is a more intimate setting with me near the corner of the bar playing my assortment of standards, pop tunes, classic country and personal favorites. The Lower Keys is home to a very active music scene and I am very happy to become a small part of it.
